The United States and Mexico officially submitted a joint bid to host the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup, which would take place one year after the two nations, along with Canada, host the 2026 World Cup, ESPN announced.

With the slogan "New Hights" and seeking to "capitalize on a moment of extraordinary growth in women's sport and deliver a tournament of unprecedented success", the two nations unveiled their bid for the tenth edition of the tournament.

If the joint venue is chosen, it would be the third time the United States has hosted the competition, following the 1999 and 2003 editions.

Looking to grow women's football

The president of the Mexican Football Federation, former Olympic athlete Ivar Sisniega, said that hosting the 2027 Women's World Cup would be a platform for the growth of women's football in both North American nations.

"We are delighted to partner with US Soccer to bid for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup," Sisniega said in remarks reported by ESPN.

"All teams participating in this tournament will experience the warmth and support of our fans, as evidenced by the success of our women's professional leagues.

"This is a great opportunity to grow women's football and give players a level playing field to shine and show the world what great players they are."

Inspiring girls around the world

US Soccer President Cindy Parlow Cone said the 2027 Women's World Cup in Mexico and the United States will provide new opportunities for all girls and young women who want to become professional players.

"As a result, we believe the time is right to host a FIFA Women's World Cup that offers a truly world-class experience for both players and fans," she added.

"This will not only unlock the economic potential of women's football, but will send a message to young players around the world that there is no limit to what they can achieve."

FIFA will complete its bid analysis in February 2024 and the host of the 2027 Women's World Cup will be announced three months later in May.
