In tonight’s Undercover Boss episode, Sharon Leite was the latest in bosses that joined this season of the hit show. She’s the CEO of the brand known as the Vitamin Shoppe and the company was a known for health and wellness. But Sharon hopes to one day expand it.
The stores first opened in 1977 and they hit a snag back in 2014 after they failed to push an online presence back when everything else was taking off. Shannon has since changed this and. She’s taking the company into the modern era and so her problem really stemmed from the pandemic. Bigger brands have gotten closed down due to the pandemic. Shannon doesn’t want that to happen to her company and that’s why she’s taken such a drastic company of going undercover.
Shannon donned a wig and glasses. She also joined the stores as persona of someone just starting out in the company and who was doing a documentary about people starting over late in life. Shannon first met Glo. Glo was one of the Health Enthusiasts. She actually had gotten no training through the company because they didn’t provide for that and so Glo had to pay for outside education herself. As Shannon went on to find out herself, Glo is amazing. She was a great expert at the store and the customers all loved her. Shannon often had to turn to Glo for help. Shannon didn’t know the products as well as Glo and Glo also had to run the store as well.
Glo was both a Health Enthusiast and an Assistant Manager. She was on call because of the staffing shortage and so she once worked seven days straight without a break. She also couldn’t see her nephew. Her nephew is terminal. His health is precarious and Glo had to choose between work and seeing him and so she hasn’t seen in a year. Its been tough on her. She wishes she could get enough time off to be able to quarantine with enough time to still see him. But that hasn’t happened yet. Glo is great at what she does and the boss doesn’t want to let her go. They were even willing to risk losing her and Shannon found that unacceptable.
Shannon went on to work with Suzanne next. Suzanne was also an everything kind of person. She has to run the store seemingly by herself and she also had to have knowledge of all their products to better assist the customers. Suzanne doesn’t leave because she believes in the brand. She lost almost two hundred pounds by working out and taking supplements sold at the store. Shannon believed in the work. She was understaffed. Like Glo was. Shannon often found the store crammed and no one there to help. Shannon also heard about Suzanne’s daughter. Her daughter passed away. The family had to decide if they wanted to turn off life support and they chose to do so.
Suzanne talked about being with her daughter to the end. She’s been through a lot and Shannon for her as a mother. Shannon’s time with Suzanne even extended outside of work. They actually worked out together and so Shannon really does like her. Shannon’s next experience with Tracey wasn’t so great. She saw so much that was wrong at the company end. She found out that the store where Tracey worked was seriously under-supplied. It was so bad that Tracey would often cancel orders online that customers thought they just had to pick up in store when in fact that the store was cancelling this orders to resupply their limited items. And that was just so wrong that it took Shannon’s breath away.
Shannon also noticed that the store could check with the local warehouse. There would be items in the warehouse and it just wasn’t getting to the store. She asked Tracey about him. He couldn’t give her an answer. Tracey also went on to use his own credit card to get the machines working in the morning. It was a huge gamble because his card could have been used to make transactions. It also risks his information. Shannon was just so stunned by her time with Tracey that she considered unmasking herself as an undercover boss. But luckily she chose not to. She instead sat back and listen to everything that was going wrong right under her nose.
The first thing Shannon did after ditching the disguise was give Glo three weeks paid time off to visit her nephew. She also gave Glo a bonus for all the hard work she did and there was going to be changes implemented within the company. To help train people that need training. Shannon also gave money to Tracey. She gave him five grand for his help in identifying a problem. Poor Tracey was working two jobs. He works seventy hours a week and he didn’t get to see his kids that much, but now that he will be assisting in the factory to store transfer that should come with a bonus and he won’t have to work as much. And Shannon also gave Suzanne money to create a fund in her late daughter’s name.
Glo got to see her nephew, Suzanne got to remember her daughter and assist with other people who were experiencing the same thing that she did, and Tracey got to quit his second job.
THE END!
