Joe Buck career
At the age of 25, Buck was the youngest man to ever announce a regular schedule of National Football League (NFL) games on network television after being recruited by Fox in 1994.
In 1996, he and Tim McCarver, who had previously collaborated on projects at CBS with his father, were selected as Fox’s primary play-by-play announcers for Major League Baseball.
Buck called Mark McGwire’s 62nd home run, which surpassed Roger Maris’ single-season record, on September 8, 1998. Fox broadcast the game live and in prime time to the whole country.
Since the conclusion of the Monday/Thursday Night Baseball period on ABC in 1989, it has been unusual for a nationally televised regular season game not to be broadcast on cable.
Tim Green served as Buck’s color analyst on the network’s fourth NFL broadcast team shortly after he started working for Fox.
He continued handling NFL games for three years before deciding to focus only on baseball responsibilities. In the 2001 season, Buck occasionally took Curt Menefee’s place as the network’s sixth play-by-play announcer.
For a brief period in the 2006 campaign, Curt Menefee and Buck co-hosted Fox’s pre-game program Fox NFL Sunday in James Brown’s place.
The show started airing live from the site of Fox’s biggest game of the week in order to accommodate his participation. In 2007, Fox NFL Sunday switched back to being predominantly aired from Fox Sports’ offices in Los Angeles when Buck stepped down as host to concentrate on his play-by-play responsibilities.
On October 14, 2012, Buck presided over two games: the New York Giants-San Francisco 49ers game at Candlestick Park at 1:25 PM PDT, followed by a seven-mile trolley ride up the west shore of San Francisco Bay to AT&T Park for Game 1 of the National League Championship Series between the St. Louis Cardinals and the San Francisco Giants at 5:15 PM PDT.
It was revealed in April 2014 that Greg Norman and Buck will co-anchor Fox’s new lineup of United States Golf Association telecasts, most notably the U.S. Open competition.
On December 12–14, 2014, the duo made their broadcast debut at the Franklin Templeton Shootout, an occasion that Norman also served as host for. Fox dismissed Norman in 2016, and Paul Azinger took his place.
On February 5, 2009, Buck inked a deal with HBO to host Joe Buck Live, a sports-focused chat show for the network with a format like that of Costas Now, the monthly HBO program that was formerly presented by Bob Costas.
On March 16, 2022, ESPN said that it had hired Buck and Aikman to a multi-year contract, under which they will take over as Monday Night Football’s primary broadcast duo beginning with the 2022 NFL season and also work on ESPN+-related initiatives.
Their 20-year run as Fox’s primary NFL broadcast crew came to an end with the shift. One of ESPN’s Big Ten college football games for the 2022 season was agreed to be transferred to Fox as payment for Buck departing Fox Sports with one year remaining on his contract.
During the 2022 PGA Championship in May, Buck made his on-air debut at ESPN, anchoring an alternate broadcast on ESPN2 and ESPN+ that was produced by Peyton and Eli Manning and included ESPN golf expert Michael Collins and other famous guests.
