Curtis is in her 60's, and she's not afraid of it. She says that she isn't afraid of aging, and that she is embracing it. "This word 'anti-aging' has to be struck. I am pro-aging," she said at the Radically Reframing Aging Summit. "I want to age with intelligence and grace and dignity and verve and energy."
In a photo Curtis posted on Instagram of her character in the upcoming film, Everything Everywhere All at Once, she opened up about her body image. She says that she is a lot more comfortable with her body, and that she isn't trying to look skinnier, especially when making this film. "I've been sucking my stomach in since I was 11, when you start being conscious of boys and bodies, and the jeans are super tight. I very specifically decided to relinquish and release every muscle I had that I used to clench to hide the reality. That was my goal. I have never felt more free creatively and physically."
Curtis is a recovering addict, and is currently over 20 years sober. "My recovery is the single greatest accomplishment that I will ever get to do in this human life," she said to Hello! Magazine. "I have a generational link to addiction and substance abuse in my family and I was able to catch it, look in the mirror, understand the problem and I have been clean and sober for 22 years."
Curtis has played a variety of roles in films and has taken on spokeswoman roles for different products. She says that she is open to any opportunity that comes her way. "I have continually taken the jobs that come my way, from blockbuster film projects to commercials for pantyhose and rental car services and yogurt that makes you regular," she told InStyle. "I'm sure some people thought I would never get another 'real' job after taking some of those opportunities, but I didn't care. Everything good that has happened to me, it's because I have been in the path of it."
Curtis opened up about some of her wellness secrets to Good Housekeeping. One of her secrets is not looking in the mirror too much. "I don't know if men wake up, look in the mirror and hate themselves. Most women do. So I have a big secret: I don't look in the mirror. I'm a 60-year-old woman. I am not going to look the same as I used to, and I don't want to be confronted by that every day! When I get out of the shower, I have a choice: I can dry myself off looking in the mirror, or I can dry myself off with my back to it. I turn my back to the mirror, and I feel great! I don't want women to hate themselves, because I think women are extraordinary."
