The Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office reports a man died in a plane crash in Hamilton on Tuesday morning, June 27. The single person in the aircraft, the pilot, was declared dead at the site “due to the impact of the crash.”
In a Facebook post, the Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office identified the deceased as a man from Hamilton who was the only passenger. Due to the intensity of the collision, he was declared dead at the site.
The Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office released the following:
Ravalli County Sheriff-Coroner Steve Holton reported the RCSO is investigating a fatal plane crash at the Hamilton Airport that occurred Tuesday morning. Sheriff Holton said the pilot was the aircraft’s sole occupant and was pronounced deceased on the scene due to the crash’s impact. The pilot was an adult male from the Hamilton area. The FAA and NTSB have been notified and will determine the cause of the crash. The initial information indicates the crash occurred during or shortly after the plane took off from the airport. The RCSO will release the pilot’s name after his family can notify their friends and loved ones. Sheriff Holton thanked the Hamilton and Corvallis Volunteer Fire Departments for their fast and professional responses. The RCSO extends our sincere condolences to the pilot’s family and friends. Additional information will be released as the investigation continues.An adult male from the Hamilton region served as the pilot. The Curtiss Wright P-40E airplane that crashed on land owned by a private individual bordered the Stock Farm to the north.
